Founded in 1938, the  Centers for Independence exists to inspire HOPE.  We serve more than  20,000 individuals annually.  Our more than 30 programs and services help people with traumatic brain injuries, developmental and intellectual disabilities lead more independent lives.  The urban garden at 6th and Norwich is a great example of an inspiring CFI program. We’ve been growing our farm operations since the summer of 2023, and it has been a huge success and very popular with our clients.  We’re at peak growing season right now.  More than 70 people with disabilities help to plant, care for, harvest and sell our greenhouse-grown vegetables. Clients are involved every step of the way with activities that allow them to be immersed in the process from start to finish. Our most recent community integrated experience for clients includes harvesting and delivering our fresh produce to local restaurant partners, like Braise.
